About this project...
I'm a professor at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. This web site contains extracts from the journal I kept as I travelled in the summer of 1997 with 17 students from the USA to Grimsby College, Lincolnshire, England .
I wish to warmly thank all the people in Grimsby for the many courtesies they extended to us, especially Mick Cooper, Phil Hutchison and Rob Burton of the Grimsby faculty for the many hours of extra effort they put in on our behalf, and the friendly and efficient staff of the Millfields Hotel where we stayed.
We travelled to York, Whitby, Stratford on Avon, Bradford and eventually London where many of the students struck out on their own for other destinations. I went on to Newcastle, Sunderland, and to Stirling, Scotland where I met my wife and oldest son for a few days travel in Scotland. We visited Edinburgh, Stirling, Arbroath, Inverness, the central Highlands and Glasgow, travelling by train and bus.
Thanks are due to my parents, Win and Bob, and to my brother Rob, and sister and brother-in-law Deb and Steve for their child care efforts which made this trip practicable.
The pages of the journal were scanned on an Easy Photo Reader and edited in Microsoft Front page.
