Students

I was in Britain because 17 students decided that spending thousands of dollars to travel overseas was a good plan. They were right, and I think they learned a huge amount in three weeks.

Some of what they learned was:

  1. drinking a whole lot is bad for your health and makes you feel really bad.
  2. mom's food is a lot better than they thought.
  3. there is a lot more to learn about the world than they had counted on.
  4. it's possible to live quite differently than what they formerly considered "normal".
  5. it took a lot of people with smart ideas to make the world work the way it does.
  6. there's no place like home.

Here are some of them:

At York Cathedral Clifford's tower, York fossil hunters at Robin Hood's Bay
ready for Shakespeare Rob Burton, faithful chaffeur and raconteur Grimsby Fish Auction -- move'em out!

As for me, I learned that it has been a REALLY long time since I was 20, and I'm not too sure I want to go through that all again. But, on the other hand, some parts of being 20 are a lot easier now than when I did it. I definitely would recommend a long trip with a bunch of students for any professor who has been out of school for more than ten years or so.
