The
Rehoboth jam has a round-the-circle format of players choosing
tunes, with repertory from both traditional Old Time, French-Canadian,
Celtic or International Roots music. A lot of tunes are chosen
from the Portland Collection of Contradance tunes, the Bill Mathieson
Waltz books, or versions downloaded from John Chambers massive
tune collection of public domain music at MIT(links below). Some
players do not use written music. The repertory varies quite a
lot from week to week depending on who comes to play....
Instruments
which would probably feel most comfortable are fiddle, guitar,
mandolin, banjo, accordion, piano, recorder/whistle/flute... the
sessions are open to people of all ages and any level of ability.
Not a slow jam or a music lesson, but not all at breakneck speed,
either. Reels are often played at a rather slow 90 -100, with
lots of moderate waltzes.
