The classic Mayan corbelled archway leads to a unroofed courtyard where the Maya placed a commemorative tablet and stela. The lack of a true arch severely constrained Mayan buildings by preventing the construction of broad interior spans. Left: rooms with stone roofs are very narrow... only 2 meters in width or so... |
