Mahalo

June 2001

Dr Matt McConeghy

This web site is a very incomplete record of my visit to Hawaii in June-July of 2001. Any mistakes of interpretation or identification are my fault. Hey, after a week of geology, my brain is full!

Thanks are especially due to:

Dr Chuck Blay of TEOK Investigations who led our trip. He provided a terrific set of study materials for us, and did a great job of keeping us busy and intrigued, shepherding us around to some terrific sites which we couldn't have found without him. And, a great job of explaining to us what the heck that was, anyway! And, thanks also to his scientific, photographic, and excellent-food-arranging colleague Rob Siemers. Good job, guys!

Dr. Gil Yanow and the NSF Chautaqua program who provided support for the trip, Dr. Dave Seidel of JPL/NASA for a great talk (and letting me use the shower first), Dr. Don Swanson of the Volcano Lab for arranging that tsunami !

The Johnson & Wales University Department of Science and the Faculty Development Fund Grant which helped pay some of my travel expenses.

Mahalo (Thanks!) and Aloha!

Matt McConeghy

p.s. This site was created using Dreamweaver and Fireworks software. Some photos were taken with a Nikon Pronea S with a 30/60mm lens, Fuji ASA 200 APS film, and scanned with an inexpensive EasyPhoto reader; However, most images were taken by a Hewlett Packard Model 215 digital camera using the low resolution 640x480 setting.
