Dr McConeghy -- Sample MLA Citations from two Web Pages |
| My assignment asked me to write a paragraph about boating safety, so I checked two web pages for information (Boating Safety and Know Your Boat ) and then wrote the following paragraph. You can check the web pages to see how I did the paragraph and the Works Cited entries... | |
|
my paragraph First, I put a citation from "Know Your Boat" because I use an exact quotation from that original page. Second, I put a citation because I used information from the "Boating Safety" webpage. I changed the wording and explained it a little, but I still got the information from the "Boating Safety" page, so I have to do the citation. Third, I put a citation on the picture since I took it from that page. I didn't draw it myself, did I? A picture or map is like a quotation.

Works Cited My Works Cited page will follow the standard MLA format. On that page I will have an entry for each of the two web pages I used. The entries will look like this: |
Works Cited "Boating Safety" accessed 26 April 2003 <http://www.fish4fun.com /boatsoundsignals.htm> "Know Your Boat" accessed 26 April 2003 <http://www.boat-ed.com/fl/course/p1-

| Notice that there is an EXACT match between the citation in the text and the entry in the Works Cited page. There is a title for each entry, and I put the date that I accessed them. I did not use the http:// address as the citation. |
